- Abbey Life was purchased by ITT Hartford Life Insurance Company of Canada, which was later bought by AIG Life Insurance Company of Canada.
- Aetna Life purchased Financial Life and Excelsior Life. Aetna Life was then purchased by Maritime Life.
- Aeterna Life is now owned by Desjardins Group.
- Canada Life purchased Crown Life as well as CNA.
- Citadel Life was renamed Premier Life Insurance Company.
- CNA Life was purchased by Canada Life.
- Colonia Life was renamed Concordia Life who purchased Empire Life and is in the process of integrating all its products and systems.
- Confederation Life's individual life insurance contracts and segregated funds were bought by Maritime Life.
- Commercial Union Life was bought by Manulife Financial
- The Credit Life changed to Union Fidelity Life.
- Crown Life was purchased by Canada Life
- Financial Life was bought by Aetna Life who was purchased by Maritime Life.
- Gerling Global Life and Sun Alliance were purchased by Royal Life which was renamed Royal Mergers & Acquisitions of Canadian Life Insurance Companies.
- Glacier National Life was bought by The Bank of Nova Scotia.
- Holland Life Insurance Society Ltd. was purchased by Commercial Union Life. Commercial Union's individual life book of business assumed by Manulife.
- Imperial Life purchased by Desjardins Financial Security.
- Laurentian Life was absorbed by The Imperial Life Insurance Company of Canada.
- Laurier Life became a division of Imperial Life and were bought by Desjardins Financial Security.
- London Life was purchased by Great West Life and operates as London Life.
- Mony Life was bought by NN Life who was purchased by Transamerica Life.
- Metropolitan Life of Canada was purchased by Mutual Life. A portion of Mutual Lifes brokerage life insurance sales were purchased by Equitable Life.
- Mutual Life was renamed Clarica.
- Mutual of Omaha was purchased by RBC Life.
- North American Life was bought by Manulife Financial.
- New York Life was absorbed by Canada Life.
- NN Life was purchased by Transamerica Life.
- Norwich Union was bought by AIG Life Insurance Company of Canada.
- Prudential Life Insurance Company of England was purchased by Mutual Life.
- The Paul Revere Life Insurance Company merged with Provident Companies Inc. and was renamed Provident Life.
- Provident Companies Inc. merged with The Paul Revere Life Ins. Co. and was renamed Provident Life.
- Provident Life merged with Unum Canada and is now under the name UnumProvident.
- Royal & SunAlliance was purchased by Maritime Life.
- Seaboard Life was bought by North West Life which was purchased by Industrial Life. Industrial Life was renamed Industrial Alliance Pacific Life Insurance Company.

- Sun Alliance became Royal and Sun Alliance which was purchased by Maritime Life.
- Westbury Life and Canadian General Life merged and renamed Westbury Canadian Life. Westbury Canadian Life was then bought by Royal Bank who been renamed RBC Life.
- The Federal Civil Service Mutual Benefit Society was purchased by Sun Life.
- Toronto Mutual Life was renamed Unity Life.
- Transamerica Life was bought by Aegon but continued to operate as Transamerica Life.
- Traveller’s Life Insurance of Canada sold its group division to Zurich Canada now owned by Manulife and its individual division to Imperial Life now owned by Desjardins.
- U.N.A. Life was absorbed by Maritime Life.
- Unum Canada was renamed Unum Life Insurance Company of America.
- Unum Life Insurance Company of America merged with Provident Life and are now under the name UnumProvident of Canada.
- Western Life was renamed Unity Life.
- Zurich was purchased by Manulife.
